Christine Donaldson Psychotherapy
Perfectionism & Burnout

You are doing everything right and it still feels like not enough.

Therapy for high-achieving adults who look capable from the outside while carrying relentless pressure, exhaustion, and self-doubt underneath.

You might recognize yourself here
  • You hold yourself to standards you would never ask of anyone else.
  • Rest is hard to enjoy because part of you is tracking what still needs doing.
  • Praise slides off you; one piece of criticism stays for weeks.
  • You say yes quickly, then quietly resent how full your life has become.
  • You are the reliable one—and no one knows how tired you are.
Beneath the pattern

Perfectionism usually started as protection.

Somewhere along the way, being excellent kept you safe. It earned approval, avoided criticism, held a family together, or made an unpredictable world feel manageable. It worked—which is exactly why it is so hard to put down.

Burnout tends to arrive when that strategy has been running without a break for years. The exhaustion is not a character flaw. It is the cost of a system that has had no permission to stop.

So we get curious rather than critical: where this began, what it has protected, how it lives in your body, and what it is asking for now.

How we work together

Slower, warmer, and more honest than you are used to.

Our work is collaborative and depth-oriented. We may use parts work to understand the competing voices inside you—the driver, the critic, the one who wants to disappear—and somatic attention to notice what your body has been carrying while you kept going.

You will not be asked to give up your ambition, your standards, or your care for people. The aim is for those strengths to come from a grounded place, with room for rest, pleasure, and being genuinely known.

What tends to change.

From driven to chosen

Ambition stops running on fear. You still care deeply, but the pressure behind it softens.

From self-criticism to self-honesty

You can look at a mistake clearly without spending the next week paying for it.

From performing to belonging

Relationships feel less like something to earn and more like something you can rest inside.
